Hello, I’m Pete. I work with brands, governments, organizations & non-profits, creative shops, and designers on all things creative and strategic; from creating a brand voice for a new product or service, through developing creative for all stages of a brand's development, growth and success.
The projects I’m hired for typically span the course of one to four months. I work with my clients to refine and define their scope so it’s in line with their objectives and budgets. My fee includes everything they asked for, and nothing they don’t need, and can range from $5,000 to $50,000+.
Over the course of a long and storied career, I've developed and enhanced verbal identities for brands in the CPG, tech, D2C and D2B sectors. I’ve helped brands express who they are, and why people should care about them, writing campaigns for young, at-risk IV drug users, tobacco packaging warnings for cigarette smokers, and videos for high school kids to help them learn about HIV/AIDS. I've written a website for an NGO in NYC, premiered a client’s film about dogs at Tribeca, and recently gave an aviation security consultancy a new voice, verbal identity and a completely new website. I’ve been to the Hibernia oil fields and wrote a film to help market an offshore rig, written for a public utility and I’ve written on behalf of environmental organizations. I’ve written 400 page websites, and snappy single word headlines, and songs that puppets sang and children remembered 20 years later. There’s no project that intimidates me, and few problems that perplex me.
Here’s an example.
An increasing number of design firms, creative shops and both public & private sector clients hire me for their communications projects. Why? Because I can make a difference and help them get noticed. Favourably. Cleverly. Memorably. I am someone who can come in, figure it all out and present clients with a smart, innovative and effective solution. Working with their people, or on my own. Staying cool and calm under pressure. In the words of one of my clients....”We just call you. You’re so easy to work with. You get it.”
I have worked on a large number of federal government projects for DDB, including campaigns that necessitated a high level of trust, sensitivity and confidentiality. For instance, the Government of Canada requested that we develop a communications program to create immediate awareness of federal healthcare funding to the provinces. My client at Focus Strategies (division of DDB) called from Parliament Hill to brief me on the job; within two hours, I called him back with a half-dozen concepts. On the phone, we chose the strongest and most appropriate concept, and I developed a tv commercial script and emailed it back to Ottawa that night.
It was approved by the Prime Minister’s Office the next day, and was focus tested in three different cities the following night. Over the weekend, we confirmed the message and direction in a conference call with the PMO; the production house was contracted on Monday; the tv commercial was shot on Thursday, and began airing the following Monday. Turnaround time from concept to completion: 9 days.
